Fellowships for Academic Year 2024-25 are now accepting nominations through March 31, 2024

Katzin and Gumpel fellowships grants, of up to $5,000 and $10,000, can be used as part of recruitment packages, for currently enrolled students to support work at the dissertation or MFA thesis phase, or for summer funding for projects related to Jewish Studies research. Faculty can nominate any outstanding students by sending a short faculty endorsement statement describing their research and potential to jewishstudies@ucsd.edu by March 31, 2024. Currently enrolled students should submit a 1-page research proposal detailing their work and its intersection with fields in Jewish Studies to jewishstudies@ucsd.edu by March 31, 2024. Please contact Professor Allan Havis at ahavis@ucsd.edu me with any questions. 

The Jewish Studies Program provides several graduate student fellowships and other funding opportunities. Recurring opportunities are listed below with their amounts, although these can vary depending on funding. Please check back here for current information.

Gumpel Fellowship

The Dita and Erwin Gumpel Judaic Studies Endowed Fellowship

The Gumpel fellowship is awarded to current and incoming PhD students working in the Jewish Studies field and can be up to $10,000 depending on funding. Students are nominated by faculty members based on how the students' work contributes to the field of Jewish Studies.

The KIP is a fellowship awarded to current and incoming PhD students working in the Jewish Studies field and can be up to $5,000 depending on funding. Students are nominated by faculty members based on how the students' work contributes to the field of Jewish Studies.

The Jewish Studies Program awards grants and stipends to support to UC San Diego graduate student work on a case by case basis. The amount of the award varies depending on student need and fund availability. Please contact the Jewish Studies Program at jewishstudies@ucsd.edu.

Hebrew Teaching Assistant

Hebrew Teaching Assistant

The Jewish Studies Program hires a teaching assistant for our first-year Hebrew courses. Appointments vary based on program needs. The TA teaches one or two one-hour sections under the supervision of the Hebrew Languages Instructors. Office hours, preparation, and grading required. Resume or CV detailing language and/or teaching background and Statement of purpose hand written in Hebrew required. Job postings are generally posted early in the quarter for hiring the following quarter, with Fall TA opportunities being posted at the beginning of the spring quarter prior.
